Apple will add CryptoKit tools in iOS 13
05.06.19
Apple is preparing to announce the CryptoKit toolkit for "secure and efficient cryptographic operations." CryptoKit will be available to users in the iOS 13 operating system. The company's employees will tell about the capabilities of the new tools on June 5 during the presentation “Cryptography and Your Applications” at the WWDC 2019 event that takes place these days.

CryptoKit will allow developers to perform basic cryptographic operations, including hashing and key generation. This, in turn, will help automate the execution of tasks aimed at improving application security without the need to access low-level interfaces.

As follows from the publication on the Apple site, CryptoKit supports the following features:

Calculation and comparison of cryptographically protected message fingerprints;

Using public key cryptography for creating and evaluating digital signatures and key exchange. In addition to the public keys stored in the device’s memory, the user will be able to interact with private keys that are managed using the Secure Enclave system used today, for example, to work with the Touch ID;

Generating encryption / decryption keys and using them in operations such as message authentication and encryption.

As Alejandro Mashado, co-founder of the Open Money Initiative, explained, this initiative will significantly expand the capabilities of cryptocurrency developers: “For the first time, developers will be able to use Secure Enclave to manage user keys using an iPhone, which will achieve security levels comparable to hardware wallets.”

Earlier this year, it became known that Apple is interested in using the blockchain in logistics chains.
